Aunt Shelley turned us on to "letterboxing" and we tried it for the first time today. We found one of the two hidden boxes at Ernie Miller Park. The kids (& Mom!) loved it, though Dad thought it lacked some necessary excitement!
Making their "treasure books"
Lexi was the only one interested in posing with her treasure book & the letter box. The boys thought throwing rocks in the stream was much more interesting!

Groups (scouts, families, homeschoolers) hide a plastic box/bag in a public place (park, etc) then post clues online to find it. When you find it, you use your stamp to stamp their log book (to say "We were there!") & use the stamp from the box/bag to stamp your personal log book (like a passport). Like geocaching but the kids could follow the clues themselves ("Go over the bridge & then turn left", etc.) The only downside is that sometimes they've been moved or have been stolen. There were supposed to be 3 at Ernie Miller but 1 was gone b/c the park people removed the hollow log it was in!
